Happy Saturday friends! Today I am excited to share that I shared an instagram reel over on IG this morning!! You can watch it by clicking HERE!
I loved the creative aspect of showing the Anne of Green Gables Museum in this way and with this music *swoon*. I am so excited to share more reels from the trip to Prince Edward Island and other travel places over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, head on over to watch it HERE and to see the beautiful Anne of Green Gables house and heritage site!
Thanks so much for liking, saving, commenting, and sharing my IG things! You may wonder why this is important, but as social media is part of my job each time that you like, comment, share, save, or watch something it helps me and I make a small commission which is part of my job. It really is a blessing!
Happy Wednesday friends! I am excited to spend the next couple of weeks sharing with y'all some recap posts from the girls trip that I took four years ago through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia (along with some new posts from this time that I never shared also!)! I hope that it encourages you to consider taking a road trip (in part or in whole depending on your circumstances) this fall to these beautiful places in the world.

Happy Thursday friends! Today I am so excited to share with y'all 6 important things you must know if you are planning to take a similar road trip like we did on Prince Edward Island (PEI)! These are in no particular order, but are all really important! I hope that these tips help you as you travel throughout this amazing Canadian Province!
1. There Are Only Two Ways to Drive On and Off The Island
There are only two ways to get onto Prince Edward Island if you don't fly or cruise into Charlottetown. One way is the Confederation Bridge and the other way is the Ferry. I wrote a ton about this on the blog and I hope that these posts are helpful to y'all!
Some additional posts about this:
// Confederation Bridge //
2. There is NO Charge for Getting on the Island, but You Do Have to Pay to Leave
No matter how you choose to get on the island you don't have to pay- but you will have to pay when you leave. The cost for both the bridge and the ferry are comparable- both cost approximately $50. Because we were going in a loop (starting in New England, going through New Brunswick to get to Prince Edward Island we drove across the bridge to get on the island and then took the ferry to get to Nova Scotia when we were leaving).

3. Certain Roads Are Not All Finished and End Without Warning
One thing that we quickly learned in our adventures was that you could be driving, following the GPS and suddenly the paved road that you were on would turn to gravel or dirt ... or end. (Like the picture above shows!)
Sometimes you literally ended up in a farmer's field (like I mention in #6)! One time when this happened we were on a road that suddenly turned into dirt and ROUGH rocks and we literally couldn't go backwards. We were bumping along afraid the car was going to break (literally!) when we all of a sudden were back on a paved road!
We ended up finding out from the friendly farmer that came over to chat with us that the GPS didn't know that the road was now private property and the road for that stretch wasn't paved because he opted to not pay taxes. According to him, this is a general and common thing across certain parts of PEI.
My best advice is to understand this and get clear directions from locals if you are trying to go some place a bit "off the grid" (including some of the "Anne Places").
4. Getting to All of the "Anne Places" Can Be An Adventure Because of #3
I always wondered why on most Canadian Cruise Itineraries the only "Anne Places" that they visited were the Anne of Green Gables Museum and the Green Gables Heritage Home. The reason I discovered is really simple. Getting to all of the "Anne Places" (due to the roads) is impossible for buses. We saw buses struggle even in the two mentioned places above just because those roads were really narrow.
If you are looking to explore all things "Anne" on the Island, you will want your own car and should plan a road trip on the Island. (Especially if you are planning to get to the Anne and Diana Lighthouse!)

5. People On PEI Consider Going From One End of the Island to Another "A Long Trip"
One of the things that heard a lot was how "incredible" it was that we were going to explore different parts of the island (that were more than 20 minutes away). For the people that we interacted with this was something that just isn't done on the island much. I am not sure if it is just a coincidence of who we ended up talking to, but we heard this from our hosts, a person at the restaurant in Charlottetown, our waitress in Tignish, a cashier at Walmart, a gas station attendant, and a couple of other people that we chatted with.
Y'all know that on trips I like to see as much as possible (you never know when or if you will be able to travel back to a place again) so driving an hour to see a different part of the island wasn't an extreme thing to me... especially after we were taking a long road trip. But be prepared that if you choose to do the same thing you may encounter some concerned wisdom. *smiles*

6. Cell Phone Service
Overall, I found cell service on the island to be better than I expected (and had been warned about prior to the trip). If you have Canadian Service on your phone you will be fine overall, but will encounter some "dead spaces" as you can imagine. I said this several times throughout my posts on our time in Prince Edward Island, but we found the people in PEI to be incredibly helpful and going out of their way to help if it was needed (even when we accidentally ended up driving through a farmers rocky field. Hahaha!)
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and read this post today. I hope that all of the posts about our one week adventure through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia has inspired you to plan your own road trip in the coming years!

Happy Monday friends! I hope that you had a phenomenal weekend!
I am so excited to share more about our time on Prince Edward Island! After visiting Dalvay By the Sea we drove approximately 30 minutes into Charlottetown.
The PEI Tourism board had kindly given us tickets to see the Anne & Gilbert musical at the Guild and we were so excited to see this performance.
Y'all know how much I love theater and music so this was such a treat! We weren't allowed to take any pictures inside the theater but if you are in Charlottetown I definitely recommend adding this as something to see. It was adorable, cute, and quite well done. It made for an enjoyable afternoon!
After the performance we headed over to Casa Mia Cafe for a late lunch. I can't recommend this place enough. The food was delicious and honestly it was one of the best salads I have ever had. I am literally wishing I was eating it as I am writing this! *smiles*
After a leisurely lunch outside (the weather was perfect!) we headed down to this famous bookstore and spent some delightful time just browsing around. You know me and bookshops... I could spend hours. Hahaha I know many of you saw this picture on instagram... I was definitely in my happy place! *smiles*
We then walked around Charlottetown for a little bit more. Unfortunately all of the shops closed extremely early, but it was still a delightful time in the city! Soon I will be posting a Charlottetown Guide for those who are interested!
Thank you for continuing to read about our adventures throughout the recent trip through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia! I hope for those of you planning a similar trip all of this information is helpful! If you would like, you can read all of the posts from the trip by clicking on the links below:

A huge thank you to the Prince Edward Island Tourism Board that sponsored my trip to the Island, provided so much helpful information for our time in Prince Edward Island and provided the tickets to the Anne and Gilbert Musical in Charlottetown.

Happy Sunday friends! I am so excited to share more about our time on Prince Edward Island! The day after we did "all things Anne" was our final full day on Prince Edward Island. We had confirmed tickets for the Anne and Gilbert Show in the afternoon in Charlottetown and were staying the night over in Cardigan so we made this day a day of exploring the more eastern part of the Island.
After checking out (and sadly!) saying goodbye to Montgomery Inn at Ingleside, we drove approximately 40 minutes over to Dalvay to visit the historic Dalvay-By-the Sea.
The drive over to Dalvay-By-the Sea was absolutely gorgeous. We kept stopping along the way because were just in awe of the beauty of this part of the island.
Honestly, I would love to go back to this section of the Island and stay longer because it was just stunning.
There are so many beautiful views on the Island, but these North Shore views are simply gorgeous. If you visit Prince Edward Island you will definitely want to plan a trip to this area.
Dalvay by the Sea was originally a house that was built in 1895 by a wealthy businessman, Alexander MacDonald and John D. Rockefeller. Alexander nicknamed the house "Dalvay By the Sea" after a childhood home of his in Scotland.
For "Anne lovers" and those visiting the Island to see "all things Anne", you will want to make Dalvay By the Sea a stopping point on your journey. Fans of the Anne of Green Gables movies (and Road to Avonlea fans) will immediately recognize Dalvay by the Sea as the "White Sands Hotel" featured in both of these productions.
Famously used as the place where Anne performs at a recital (in the room beyond the porch in the above picture and the room with all of the windows), Dalvay By the Sea also was seen in the beginning scenes of Anne of Avonlea when she loses her paper sheets all over the dunes with the hotel in the background.
For fans of Prince William and Kate, you may also recognize Dalvay By the Sea.
In 2011 the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Prince Edward Island as part of their royal honeymoon tour and attended an outdoor reception at Dalvay By the Sea and a dragon boat race on the lake.
Without a doubt you will want to plan a visit to this beautiful area and take time to visit this historic site on the Island. If you are interested in finding out more about Dalvay By the Sea, making a reservation to stay or eat at their dining room, or have any questions you can find out more information about them HERE. A quick note- if you choose to visit PEI in certain times in October like we did, please be aware that they will not be open for full time accommodations and their dining room may be closed except for special events. Their in season is from June through the beginning of October and then the off season is in October- May. Again, please contact them if you have any questions!

Thank you also to the staff at Dalvay By the Sea that allowed us to visit the property, take pictures, and see a bit of the inside even though you were closed. It was truly a blessing! I definitely hope to return someday during your "in season" hours!
